Hello Living Fields Khmer School students!

Because our church was unable to have our annual Easter Egg Hunt due to the coronavirus, we would like to present a different activity that will enter you in for our GOLDEN EGG RAFFLE! This activity will require you to read King Covid and the King Who Cares (in both Khmer and English). After reading it, please write a one page summary of the book. If you color in the book, your name will be entered into the raffle a second time! Submissions will be due next Sunday (5/24/20).

Why did I write this book?

Hello there!

My name is Nicole, and I'm so glad you've visited.

As news of the novel coronavirus became more alarming each day, I felt compelled to write a book for the kids from my church and community. In the middle of working on this project, I wondered if the book might help other kids as well. My hope is that the story might inform, encourage, and empower kids to take part in caring for others and themselves amid the pandemic that we're facing.

Thank you to all of you who have contributed to the book and have encouraged me throughout the process! Thank you, especially, to PoSan Ung and Josh Kluth for your wise input for this version of the book. Stay safe, and let's continue to use our superpower of caring as we look to King Jesus!

Soli Deo gloria,
Nicole

p.s. If you own a printer, please encourage kids to choose their favorite page to color. I would love to see the pages come alive and will feature them on this site! Email them to: kidswhocared@gmail.com

Reviews

"Asher (almost 5) laughed several times while I read this book...The superpowers stuck with him and whenever he would wash his hands with soap, he would tell me he was using a superpower." Asher's Mom

"I'm going to wash away King Covid and his army!" Luca, 5

"They're afraid of soap, and they use their spikes to get into cells. They get trapped in the elbow pit!" Timmy, 6

"I love having this resource to talk about "the virus" with my daughter. And I LOVE the addition of the song and verses in the back for parents. But our absolute favorite part was the contrast of King Covid with King Jesus." Josh (pastor)

"It's good for any age because it's humorous, and it's got substantive facts that are actually educational." Kara, 9

"Wow! I LOVE the book. I love how educational it is, I love the illustrations, and more than anything, I love the reason behind why you wanted to write this book!" Janice (mom of two)

"I love how it ties in the gospel. I love how it's tied it to caring until the true King comes back." Kim (teacher)

"I approve of this book!! It's done with the right level of detail and information that should teach proper basic healthcare to kids and adults alike." Dr. Tom Yuen

"A powerful resource that acts as both a storybook and a therapeutic coloring book, King Covid and the Kids Who Cared is a beautiful tool to help kids handle this collectively confusing and potentially traumatic experience. This opportunity for children to read, sit and color in their 'creative say' into the COVID-19 experience is a wonderful way for families to process well." -Sarah Rumeau, Marriage and Family & Mental Health Counselor

I would love to provide printed books of King Covid and the King Who Cares to children in Cambodia. As the nation of Cambodia is also facing the effects of COVID-19, many schools have shut down and educational resources about coronavirus are scarce. Downloading an ebook would be quite difficult in certain regions, but hard copy books are a welcomed gift! As a result, this book is currently being translated into Khmer (the Cambodian language) as well as re-illustrated to make it more culturally appropriate.

If you feel led to make a donation towards this project, please click on the button below, and it will redirect you to my church's giving page. Please select "Covid Book Project for Cambodia." Thank you, and God bless!
